It’s an important question you should be asking: “How often should I be posting to social media?”
If you’re hoping to reach out to a new audience and keep your current audience engaged, timely and meaningful social media content is the way to go.
By timely – we mean a strategic approach to when you post. You are not vomiting all over your content channel hourly.
By meaningful, we mean a well-thought-out plan for what you are posting. It’s not every link you have found on the internet. Not every quote. It is planned and intentional.
Keeping a regular presence on social media continues to build trust with your constituents and keeps your messaging in front of them.
Right Timing and Right Content
The challenge is to find the balance between the right timing and the right content. This is what takes some planning, requiring a considerable amount of forethought. But when carefully considered, it gives your message credence. Too many bloggers and social media enthusiasts are creating content simply because they love the sound of their voice. Potential consumers and those that follow you can tell when content is mainly fluff.
Alternatively, too many businesses don’t take seriously enough their social media presence and their ability to generate new leads because of their posts. These same businesses would acknowledge the power of word-of-mouth/person-to-person promotion, but don’t understand how effectively that can happen with a shared social media post.
A posting schedule can help you achieve focus, where at the start of the week you are planning out your posts, and then posting in a disciplined manner. Several online tools will allow you to schedule these in advance. In your posting schedule, you can build weekly themes, or base them on events occurring in the calendar year.
However, this may seem overwhelming to some businesses who have social media accounts, but no real social media plan. Admittedly, it can seem a little overwhelming. But if you just start small and build from there, you will start to get into a rhythm and you will start to see results.
Start Small and Build
Why not try to begin with creating one social media concept a week, posted to both your Facebook and Instagram pages. Focus on three objectives:
- Concentrate on what’s happening now in your business, or what is coming up in the immediate future.
- Include an appealing picture, not covered in words (you can find thousands of royalty-free images at unsplash.com).
- Give them the next step. This is a call to action, whether going to your website or calling you for more information.
